We are delighted to have recently supplied a quantity of this jumper to 20th Century Fox of Hollywood, for use in their new film 'Call of The Wild' starring Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens, released in December 2019, and have also spotted it recently in the Cornish made film 'Bait' !
Our Guernsey is unisex, and available from extra small to XXL sizing.
As a rule of thumb, you should order the size you would normally take -
The sizing is generous - Cornish Fishermen tend to be quite broad shouldered and the jumpers are a good length for coverage. Please call us or email for advice if you are unsure of sizing. We are always happy to help
Length = Top centre to bottom
Chest = Measure from 1/2 inch under arm. Please note: the measurement doesn't equate to chest size on a person, it is the measurement of the material! It can be helpful to measure a jumper that fits you well and compare the sizing. It is likely that your actual body chest size is around 4" smaller than a jumper measured flat from underarm to underarm.
Sleeve = Underarm to wrist. Sleeves have optional turn up cuff, so the measurement is of the material, without the cuff being turned up.
Confused? Sorry! Just trying to give as much information as we can to make sure you get the perfect fit.
Just ask if you need -help - and always remember - we can easily exchange for a different size - just don't remove the tags so that you can return the item and we will immediately send out a replacement .
The History of Knitting in Cornwall:
Cornwall used to have a thriving knitting industry with each fishing port or even families having their own unique pattern for their 'Cornish Gansey Jumpers'. The Industry was lead by Cornish fisher wives. Like the Guernseys from the Channel Islands the Cornish 'Gansey' incorporated the pattern on both the back and front of the garment, meaning that if your elbows wore through you simply turned the jumper around - times were tough - and garments needed to have as long a life as possible. Another reason for individual patterns was sadly the need for identification when fisherman were lost at sea - your home port would be recognised from the pattern.
All Guernsey's come with a complimentary leaflet detailing their history - This is a great addition to your jumper if you are buying it as a gift and will give the recipient of your lovely Gansey jumper the information on its history
